Top Family-Friendly Travel Destinations for Spring Break 2025

Spring break is right around the corner, and if you’re looking for a mix of adventure, education, and budget-friendly travel, I’ve got you covered.

Whether you’re hitting the road in an RV or booking a quick getaway, these destinations offer something for every family—interactive museums for curious minds, national parks for nature lovers, and a little bit of quirky fun for those who love the unexpected.

1.  Colorado – Outdoor Adventures & Snowy Thrills

Colorado is perfect for families who love outdoor fun, and we’re heading there this spring break! Since my first snowmobiling trip—just a few months after having my son—I’ve been counting down the years until my kids were old enough to experience it with me. That time is now! We’re introducing them to snowmobiling (one of my absolute favorites), but there’s also skiing, tubing, and plenty of cozy mountain towns to explore.

If you’re more into sightseeing, head to Pike’s Peak, drive through Garden of the Gods, or take the cog railway up the mountain.

Denver has plenty of kid-friendly museums, including the Denver Museum of Nature & Science and the Children’s Museum of Denver for hands-on fun.

Budget Tip:  If you’re traveling by RV, check out free parking lots or budget-friendly campgrounds.  Snowmobiling is a splurge, but totally worth it!

2.  Nebraska – A Stop Worth the Detour

If you find yourself anywhere near Nebraska, let me tell you— best pancakes ever are waiting for you. We’ve been talking about them for two years, and this time, we’re making a detour so my mom can finally see what the hype is all about!

Nebraska might not be on every family’s radar, but between Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, the quirky Carhenge, and plenty of scenic stops, it’s a solid road trip addition.

Budget Tip:  Fuel up and grab a meal at a well-loved local diner—you’ll likely find a hidden gem.

3.  Grand Canyon – A Classic for a Reason

You can’t go wrong with the Grand Canyon.  Whether you’re hiking, taking in the views from the South Rim, or letting the kids complete another Junior Ranger Program, this natural wonder never disappoints.  If you’re feeling adventurous, take the Desert View Drive for some of the best photo ops or explore the less crowded North Rim.

Budget Tip:  Skip the pricey tours and opt for the free shuttle buses around the park. If you have a fourth grader, don’t forget about the Every Kid Outdoors pass for free national park entry!

4.  San Antonio, Tx – History & Family Fun

For a shorter road trip, San Antonio is a great option.  Walk through The Alamo, take a boat ride on  The River Walk, and visit the Witte Museum for hands-on science and history exhibits.  And if you need to cool off, there’s always Schlitterbahn Waterpark just a short drive away.

Budget Tip:  The River Walk is free to explore, and the city offers tons of picnic-friendly spots if you’re traveling with an RV kitchen.

5.  Gatlinburg, TN – Mountains & Memories

We have this one on our list for the summer, but if you can make it work for spring break, Gatlinburg is packed with adventure.  Drive through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, let the kids complete another Junior Ranger activity, and explore the eclectic downtown area.  If you’re into something a little different, Anakeesta offers treetop adventures and scenic chair lifts.

Budget Tip:  Most national parks are free to enter and many of Gatlinburg’s best hikes cost nothing but your energy.

6.  Niagara Falls – Waterfall Wonders

Another spot we’re eyeing for summer, but if you’re up for a longer trip, Niagara Falls is an unforgettable experience.  Whether you see it from the U.S. or cross into Canada, it’s a bucket-list destination.  Take the Maid of the Mist boat tour or just enjoy the breathtaking views from the observation decks.

Budget Tip:  The falls are free to view, and if you’re staying on the U.S. side, you’ll find more budget-friendly lodging and dining options.

7.  Orlando, Fl – Theme Park Magic

If theme parks are your thing, Orlando is always a solid choice.  Disney, Universal, Legoland—you name it, it’s here.  If you want to mix in some education, Kennedy Space Center is an incredible experience for kids (and adults).

Budget Tip:  Look for multi-day or combo passes if you’re hitting more than one park, and bring your own snacks to save on in-park food cost.

No matter where spring break takes you, the key is making memories—whether it’s snowmobiling in Colorado, hiking through a national park, or just enjoying a meal at a place you’ve been dreaming about for years.

BTW: If the road takes a turn and leads somewhere unexpected?  Even better!
