Saturday night at Texas Live Sports and Social Club in Arlington was a high school reunion like no other as the DeSoto High School Class of 1999 came together to celebrate our 25th reunion. Wow! How quickly time passes.
First off, I felt like a tourist in my own city! I’d never been to this spot before, and as we drove up and I walked in, I could tell this wasn’t my usual scene. Packed to the brim and loud enough to make your ears ring, it’s safe to say I’m more of a homebody who prefers peace over parties. But for one night, I embraced the chaos.
The high school reunion itself had about 40 people, but parking was a bit chaotic. With a Kane Brown concert next door, there were people and cars everywhere! The $55 parking fee sent a few classmates packing before they even made it inside. Luckily, Omar, Alberta, and I parked at a friend’s nearby, and we took an $8 rideshare like pros. Crisis averted!
Inside, it was a mix of familiar faces and “wait, who are you again?” moments. The nametags adorned with our yearbook photos helped—though the font could’ve been a little bigger. My eyes haven’t quite held up over the decades!
Shoutout to the brother who seemed to know everyone, though few seemed to know him—missing from the yearbook Omar brought for nostalgic signatures, he definitely kept things interesting. Omar, of course, lived up to his reputation as the social butterfly, flitting from group to group with ease.
As for me? I enjoyed my 2-drink max thanks to the handy drink tickets (and yes, the drinks were good). The nachos and tacos? Absolutely bussin—though I could’ve just been hungry. We had a private area with a bar that was open to the rest of the club, and despite the noise and crowd, I managed to soak up some fun, laughs, and conversation.
Big thanks to Carrie Haskins, and everyone that helped put it all together! Though some familiar faces were noticeably absent, I was glad I made it. The night wrapped up promptly at 11, and while an “exclusive” after-party was planned, I said my goodbyes and headed home like the responsible adult I pretend to be.
BTW: All in all? Worth it.
