The kids are situated. The bags are packed. My girlfriends are en route. And I am out of here.
There is a specific kind of joy that comes with knowing you are about to link up with your girlfriends; there through thick and thin. Most of us are turning 45 this year. Wiser, fuller, more seasoned. Some married. Some with kids. All of us with real life stacked up behind us—and honestly, we are all ready for this break.
Six of us. Three days. Out on the town, laughter, birthday brunch, and an afternoon by the pool. An itinerary I had absolutely nothing to do with planning, and I love that for me.

Now, five of the six of us came together at Xavier University of Louisiana. We came from different states, different cities—the only time we were ever really neighbors was in The Creeks. IYKYK.
Teal is the birthday girl. She is the glue. The protector. The one who will love you and tell you the truth in the same breath. I just saw her a few months ago, so that reunion will be easy. But the Jennifers—Jennifer and Jennifer, as I lovingly call them—I have not seen them in almost four years. And yet I already know exactly how it is going to go. I cannot wait to lay my eyes on my sisters, catch up, and just enjoy them.
And on top of that—I have family in the city. So between my girls and my people, my love tank is going to be absolutely full by the time I get back home.

I cannot wait to celebrate Teal. To be in the same space, all six of us at once. The food, the concert, family, the quiet time to myself — all of it.
However, what I am not about to do, is be out all night and spend the next day(s) paying for it. After all, I am the next one to turn 45. My body is not trained for all that—any more. I am a limit soldier.
Happy Birthday, Teal. Let’s celebrate you right—and let’s be in bed by a reasonable hour.
—Full recap coming when I get back.
