Spring into Health

Spring is here, and if your family is anything like mine, this is the time of year when we really wake up and come alive!

The trees outside are already budding , and we’re gearing up for spring and summer travel.  My aunt has even moved the plants back outside, confident that winter has gone and spring is here for good.  With longer days, warmer temperatures, and nature in bloom, it’s the perfect time to reset and refresh our wellness routines.  Whether you’re looking to lighten up meals, spend more time outdoors, or combat seasonal allergies, let’s embrace the new season with energy and intention.

Lighten Up with Seasonal, Cleansing Foods

Winter calls for cozy, hearty meals, but spring is all about fresh, vibrant, and cleansing foods.  If you haven’t started shifting your meals, now is the time to incorporate leafy greens, citrus fruits, and water-packed vegetables like cucumbers and bell peppers.  These help detox the body naturally and keep energy levels high.

Hydration is also key—consider adding lemon or mint to your water for a refreshing boost.

(Did you try any of the healthy Valentine’s Day treats we talked about? If so, let me know how they turned out!)

Refresh Your Home & Your Energy

Spring cleaning isn’t just about tidying up—it’s an act of self-care.  A clutter-free home can boost mental clarity and create a sense of calm.  Open up the windows, bring in air-purifying plants, and swap out heavy winter scents for light, citrusy or floral ones.

This is also a great time to start prepping your garden—even if it’s just a few herbs on a windowsill.  If you haven’t started yet, now’s your chance!

Get Outside & Soak in the Fresh Air

The benefits of fresh air and sunlight go beyond just feeling good.  Sun exposure helps the body produce Vitamin D, which boosts immunity and mood.  Outdoor movement—whether it’s hiking, playing at the park, or even just a walk around the block—reduces stress and increases energy.  Plus, grounding (walking barefoot on grass or soil) has been shown to improve overall well-being.

(If your implemented any of the wellness routines from our previous blogs have you noticed a difference in how you feel?)

Spring Sleep Reset:  Adjusting to the Longer Days

With more daylight, our sleep cycles can shift, sometimes leading to restless nights—especially for kids.  To help settle the mind and body, I begin turning off bigger lights as the evening progresses and switch to softer side lamps.  I also use aromatherapy with essentials oils like lavender and chamomile to create a calming atmosphere before bed.  Try setting a consistent evening routine with screen-free wind-down time and soft calming lighting.

Lighter meals in the evening and natural sleep aids like chamomile tea can also help.  If you or your little ones have been struggling with sleep lately, small adjustments can make a big difference.

Combat Allergies & Support Your Immune System

If spring allergies are already hitting your family (I know my son and I have been feeling it—him sneezing, me with itchy eyes), natural remedies can help.  Try:

  • Local honey to build immunity to pollen (but remember, honey should not be given to babies under one year old)
  • Herbal teas like nettle or peppermint to reduce inflammation
  • A saline rinse or steam therapy to clear sinuses
  • Keep windows closed on high-pollen days and changing air filters regularly

Eating antioxidant-rich foods, staying hydrated, and prioritizing rest will also keep your immune system strong as the season change.
