5 Health and Beauty Tips Worth Making Habits

There is never a wrong time to improve your overall wellness. These are five health and beauty tips worth trying, to keep your body, mind, and soul healthy and happy.

Improving and maintaining your health and beauty can be daunting. It seems like every week there is a new diet to struggle through. There is no shortage of products available that claim to be the fountain of youth.  Going into stores like Ulta Beauty can be overwhelming if you are anything like me. Why are there so many products to choose from? I am under the belief that obtaining health and beauty does not have to be expensive or exclusive, but consistent. These are five of the best health and beauty tips worth trying and incorporating into your routine and making habits.

warm lemon water for health and beautyLemon water

I have never been a coffee drinker, although I do enjoy the aroma. When I was younger, I began each day with a glass of orange juice. Now days, I opt for a cup of warm fresh lemon water to start every morning. Replacing my cup of orange juice with lemon water, and thus cutting the sugar intake first thing, is impactful enough. Not to mention, it is water, so that helps with staying hydrated; adding to my daily water intake.

Starting the day with fresh lemon water has also shown to support the immune system, cleanse your system, reduce inflammation and aid in digestion. I choose to drink the lemon water warm because it is both soothing to my throat and less shocking to my body (no cold brain freezes first thing in the morning).

health and beauty snow yoga tipYoga

An exercise routine is essential to preserve a healthy you. Discovering and committing to yoga has been a game changer for me. Feeling the impact on my knees, hips, and lower back, from my years of playing sports, carrying two 8-pound babies in my late thirties, and an occupation that kept me on my feet 8-14 hours a day, yoga would provide a workout that was low impact on my joints, and I could practice just about anywhere.

Yoga has been shown to help reduce pain and stress, improve balance, flexibility, and strength, ease anxiety, improve body awareness, and allows you to just breathe.

I can honestly say, in my almost 3 years of consistent practice (practicing 20-45 minutes once to twice a day for 4-7 days per week), I have gained all of the aforementioned benefits. In fact, my body yearns to practice. I am a proclaimed yogi!

health and beauty skin care tipSkin care

With hundreds of skincare products available today, it can be mind-boggling to decide which is right for you.  Personally, I have used the same products for the last 20 plus years ( a combination of Proactiv and Mary Kay and Aveeno). I have tried switching to some of the new “must-have” products, but my skin was not having it. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. No matter what line of products used, a basic regimen of cleanse (washing your face), target (toner/serum/eye creams/blemish control), moisturize (hydrate), and protect (sunscreen) is recommended to maintain a healthy hydrated barrier. Knowing your skin type and trouble areas (a dermatologist’s assistance may be needed) will help in choosing products and how often to use those products.  Be consistent with your regimen, as it can take weeks to see results.  My mother always stressed to take care of my skin; wash the day off your face and moisturize no matter how late, how drunk, or how tired….Noted!

My favorite space of the house has become the backyard. I spend as much time outside as I can; it has become my healing ground. The sun provides a natural source, and our best source, of vitamin D (aids with calcium in building bones to protect against osteoporosis, supports weight loss, shown to reduce cancer cell growth, etc).  Being outside in the sun amongst the rhythm of nature can help improve your mood. For me, outdoors is harmonious which is peaceful, calming and rejuvenating. My family and I took a 30-day RV road trip where we were engulfed in the great outdoors: walking, hiking, exploring, and connecting with nature. It was a transcending experience for me; reconnecting me to myself and beyond. Speak to the earth, and it will teach you..Job 12:8

the best health and beauty tips v-steamVaginal Steam

Although this practice has been around for centuries, I must confess I only came to hear about vaginal steaming a couple years ago. I was intrigued of the testimonies and claims of  “healing” powers.  While scrolling on Groupon to find a new experience, a deal for a vaginal steam near me, Sister2Sister Wellness Spa,presented itself. Yall know I love a great Groupon find! So let’s go little kitty cat (I can not pass up a Beyonce reference)!

I must admit, I was a bit hesitant. However, I had been diagnosed with adenomyosis (a gynecologic condition that causes endometrial tissue in the lining of the uterus to grow into the muscular wall of the uterus), which had become quite painful. Not to mention the changes that too often occur to the vagina due to aging and childbirth. Thus, I would conduct my own yoni steam experiment.

I will say this! Since I started vaginal steaming once every month to every other month, I have notice a significant relief in my gynecological pain. And if nothing else, it is a calming, meditative, self care affair!

Although these health and beauty tips may produce superficial results, the true benefits lay beneath the surface. Finding ways to improve overall health and wellness is the main goal.
BTW: Health is wealth. Finding regimens, products, and habits that can be maintained in your lifestyle and the lifestyle you are striving to create is the key.
