Rolling Into RV Life

First week in, and we’re still rolling strong—literally and figuratively.

We’ve officially kicked off our summer adventure, and RV life has been…a ride.  Since last Thursday, we’ve gone from the Smoky Mountains of Gatlinburg to the shores of Lake Erie in Cleveland. And now, we’re parked just a 10 minutes drive from the breathtaking Niagara Falls—what a way to start!

Transitioning from house to highway hasn’t been without its quirks.  There are six of us packed in here, but we’ve found our rhythm.  I sleep in the overhead bunker bed with my baby girl, and although I am plenty warm and comfortable, let’s just say my nighttime tea habit means I get plenty of steps climbing up and down to the restroom.  Worth it for the routine and the cozy sleep.

The kids are adjusting beautifully.  Between bikes, balls, and pools at nearly every stop (thank you, heated RV park pools!), they’re staying active and content-ish—they are kids that somehow always find themselves ‘bored’ (insert eye roll).

We brought the essentials—jump ropes, yoga mats, and snacks galore—and we’re actually using them.  RV life has us moving slower in the best ways, whether it’s a early evening walk in a shopping center parking lot, or afternoon yoga on the dock.

We’ve stayed at two extremely nice RV parks thus far (clean bathhouses, hot showers, the works) and yes, we’ve had a couple of overnight parking lot stays.  Still, no complaints—our fridge and pantry were stocked from day one, and we’ve only eaten out twice.  We’re all pitching in with cooking and cleanup.  All the adults are tidy (bless them), which soothes my hint of OCD and helps keep things flowing.

Frick is our fearless captain behind the wheel—and I’m Frack, riding shotgun as the navigator.  His early morning takeoffs mean we’re often exploring new sights before breakfast.  Some of our best moments weren’t even planned, like taking in Daniel Reed Memorial Pier or climbing up to take in the views—and stories—of the Barcelona Lighthouse, or taking a walk across the bridge at Niagara Falls into Canada for lunch.

We’re not totally unplugged—our Wi-Fi setup is solid—but we’re definitely leaning into the slower, simpler rhythm of RV life.  And so far? It’s working.

Tell me—have you ever taken an RV trip, or thought about it?  I want to hear how you found your rhythm on the road…or what’s holding you back. Drop a comment, send a message, or just share what part of RV life sounds like your kind of adventure.

We’re just getting started, and I’d love to bring you along for the ride!
