What Is Your Go-To Travel Outfit?

When it comes to my travel outfit, it’s comfort over everything.

These cold winter days have me longing for the beach.  I am ready to pack my bags, throw on a comfortable travel outfit, and get away!  We are in full preparation for my cousin’s 50th birthday celebration this spring.  I have found myself daydreaming about warm sands and sunshine; mentally, I am already oceanside.

I realized, whether by bus, plane, train, or automobile, my travel outfit is essentially the same….warm and easy. It has come to my attention, I have a 5 piece travel outfit uniform….

Stretchy pants.  Flexible and warm, like  these yoga pants are my go to. And don’t let them have pockets, yes please!  Whether going directly to the hotel, stopping to grab a bite to eat, or immediately immersing myself in the sites, these pants are comfortable for all day.

Hoodie. I know with certainty at some point in my travel, I will be cold. A warm hoodie, with pocket is a must. The pocket (I just realized I have a thing for pockets) is a good place to hold my tickets when going thru check points, an easy access snack pouch, as well as a heating/docking site for my hands, which are always cold. If on public transportation, I put the hood on, so my hair is not in direct contact with the seat (shout out to my fellow germaphobes!)

T-shirt. Unless my cousin (my travel buddy), has coerced me into wearing a themed travel shirt, often times I travel with my long sleeved pharmacy class shirt, that I have had longer than I would like to admit. Still in excellent condition, it has become the item that travels with me wherever I go; my sentimental adventure shirt.

Compression Socks.  Not only do they help with my circulation, but they also provide insulation (I take no chances to being cold and uncomfortable). I know these may not serve the most chic look, but if you have never had swollen feet and ankles, keep living (as my grandmother says). Find some comfort (pun intended), knowing you are no longer limited to basic black, tan, and white. I love a graphic compression sock.

Slip in shoe.  Whether going through TSA or settling in for the ride, having shoes that can effortlessly be put on and taken off, makes travel easier. My classic Vans or these cute flats, are perfect for travel, and can be paired with just about anything.

My travel outfit has changed since my first flight as a child to Ohio: velvet dress, stockings, patent leather shoes. Don’t get it twisted.  I was clean. My grandmother had me dressed to the nines. However, these days, it is all things ease and comfort.
BTW: Honorary mention uniform item: I will always and forever wear a mask on the plane. It’s the extra close proximity to hundreds of people in the closed cabin, for me.

What is your go to travel outfit? Please share below…BTW…don’t forget your your bonnet!

  • Love it and we are very similar in that aspect. My go to travel is usually leggings, t-shirt used to always be a UNT shirt, now a lot of times it is an AKA themed shirt. And ALWAYS my sweatshirt (I have several favorites) and my blanket. I have been so ready for a vacation and preferably one where I’m near water. Let me find some place to go soon.

My travel outfit starts with a hoodie or sweatshirt (crazy name, because this Diva NEVER sweat), comfortable pants and a T-shirt under it. Hey, just like you. Learned just recently of the compression socks and I wear comfortable athletic shoes for the extra walking that international travel warrants. I carry my own trusted body blanket and a ski style cap for the freezing temperature on planes conveniently placed in my under the seat carry-on with my back pillow. Now my in plane comfort is set.

My travel fit is the same but it will be all back every thing: hoodie, tshirt, yoga pants, compression socks & sneakers. TSA Precheck here so I’m not taking off shoes! 🤣 Also have my larger bag to keep all my traveling junk in too. I’m so extra…except at ATL’s airport – ugghhh.
